Brandon Dermal Fillers
Family Dental Spa operates as one of the only dental practices in the Brandon area providing dermal fillers. Our practice uses Botox, the trade name for botulinum toxin, that comes in the form of a cleaned protein. Its been over 20 years since the introduction of Botox injections and it has been used for frown lines between the eyes and the smoothing of facial wrinkles. Botox treatments are the most commonly preformed and very minimally invasive cosmetic procedure in the US. Botox use is extremely simple. It’s injected into the facial muscles and, within a couple of hours, it attaches itself to the nerve endings of your motor muscles, therefore affecting the nerve transmission to these muscles.
It takes anywhere from 2 to 10 days to effectively block the nerve transmitters which innervate the muscles where it was injected. There is no loss of sensory feeling at all in the interim time that botulinum toxin A is effective. These motor nerve endings are disrupted, the muscles can’t contract. When the muscle does not contract, the vigorous motion that causes wrinkles in the skin will then stop. The reason there are wrinkles in the skin at all is because the muscle is moving underneath, these are called dynamic wrinkles. Generally 3 to 10 days after treatment, the skin above these specific motor muscles becomes smooth.
The effects of Botox lasts around 3 to 4 months depending on various factors including the amount of botulinum toxin A injected, metabolic activity of the patient and of course lifestyle choices, which may cause the Botox treatment not to last as long. If and when a patient sees these wrinkles return, the patient needs re-treatment. Botox used with cosmetic dentistry can do wonders in rejuvenating a persons appearance.
Facial fillers are often used in partnership with Botox to enhance a more youthful look. A dermal filler injection is a material injected underneath the skin, marionette lines, and oral commissionaires, which plump up these areas and smooth out the wrinkles. Lip augmentation is also done with dermal fillers. Whereas Botox is most often used on the upper face, dermal fillers are most often used on the lower half of the face. Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers like Juvederm add more volume to the facial structures, they are very hydrophillic meaning they absorb water already within the skin, and look very natural. Hyaluronic acid fillers typically last 6 to 12 months.
